10 Reasons You Should Use Essential Oils

You’ve started to get your house in order, so why not make it smell great too!? Wouldn’t it be great if it smelled like a heavenly spa or like fall all year round? Today we’re going to discuss the hubbub about essential oils and how they’re different than using an air freshener or scented candle to freshen up your home and your health.

1. THEY DON’T JUST SMELL GOOD

Despite what you might think, essential oils can be used topically, through aromatherapy, ingested and diffused in order to heal whatever might ail you. For example, peppermint can be placed on your temples to ease a headache and lemon can be dropped into your water for an added zing without the acidity from the lemon ruining the enamel on your teeth because lemon essential oil is made from the rind which doesn’t have the same acidic properties. Check out this link to see a bunch of different ways oils can be used.

2. PURIFY THE AIR

For those of you who may have a stinky cat box, leftover food smell from your dinner the night before, a musty basement or any other unwanted scents, essential oils can help eliminate those unwanted odors and replace them with something fresh without just masking the odor. Diffusers work by breaking down the essential oil into micro molecules then projecting them into the air to fill a room or work space. As the oils break down they release natural ozone, freshen and improve the quality of the air.

3. WHOLE BODY WELLNESS

Essential oils can help alter our physical, mental and emotional well-being by triggering and strengthening our bodies’ own natural processes. They are made up of tiny molecules that can deliver healing properties to the systems that control our physiological state. Aromatherapy can be very soothing to the mind and body simply by inhaling essential oils. For example, I use lavender every night before bed to help me fall asleep and stay asleep.

4. SAFETY FIRST

Rather than having to worry about leaving a candle burning too long, ultrasonic essential oil diffusers do not use heat, they plug into an outlet and use an almost silent vibration to break down the oils. This helps keep your home safe for children, pets or even a clumsy guest and keeps it smelling great for you when you return home.

5. CHEMICAL QUEST

Candles and air fresheners are made with chemicals and synthetic fragrances to create a scent which are toxic to our bodies, our pets and the environment. What you might not know is that these chemicals release carcinogens into the air that you’re inhaling.

6. FOCUS

Did you know, there are essential oils out there that can help you stay focused, especially if you have ADD? Try using oils like peppermint, frankincense, patchouli, vetiver or ylang ylang to help you or your child stay focused at work or school. Our other favorite oil blends for focus are Brain Power and Clarity.

7. SWITCH TO SAFER

Essential oils can be used as a safe alternative for cleaning products. Try cleaning your countertops using tea tree oil and lemon oil or thieves (read more about thieves here). Smell ya later Clorox!

8. SOME OF MY FAVORITES

My favorite fall blend is cinnamon bark, thieves and orange. It reminds me of sipping warm cider on a chilly fall day. Lavender is a very versatile oil that I use to reduce stress and anxiety. I often use purification and lemon to help purify the air in my home and give it a refreshing scent.

9. POTIONS

Think of yourself as a chemist, brewing different concoctions to make the perfect at home scent and improve your health. Essential oils are a fun way for you and your family or friends to experiment at home to make a personalized favorite. The options are endless!
