The Importance of Labeling
One of our favorite tips for creating an organized space is to label! Whether it is a pantry space, kids closet or a garage, creating labels will help you maintain the space and help others use the space as well. Labeling is the key to long-term, sustainable organization.
It’s important to label your bins, baskets, shelves, cabinets, etc so you can quickly and easily identify categories to figure out where things are suppose to end up. It makes it easier to put away groceries in a pantry when its labeled, and easier for your kids to identify where their snacks are. Labeling in an office can make it quicker to find the piece of paper you are looking for. Labeling in a bathroom can make it faster for you to get ready in the morning.
It’s important to first sort, purge and plan out your space before picking out containers to corral each category. This is because these first steps will help you more easily determine what the best container will be for each of your items. There are so many options out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. We love the interDesign bins that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They can be used for pantry spaces, inside your fridge, in your bathroom, even for kids toys. We recommend more natural looking bins like this one for spaces like clothing closets. Now get to labeling!
You can label shelves and bins by using a label maker like this one or this one. For spaces where you are looking for an elevated look and have selected attractive bins, you can also use decorative bin clips and labels. The Home Edit also has pre-printed labels for sale here.
